rope fittings - Product Information
Lifting Tackle Suppliers stock two types of wire rope grips:
- Din 741 Commercial Pattern Wire Rope Grips
- EN 13411-5 Type A (Formerly Din 1142) Heavy Duty Wire Rope Grip
Wire rope grips are used to form wire rope end termination loops, a wire rope only loop is referred to as a soft eye and a wire rope loop fitted with a thimble is called a hard eye.
The relevant standard for the wire rope grip states the number of wire rope grips required for the diameter of the wire rope. When fitting the wire rope grip the U bolt should be fitted to the Unloaded part of the rope. Tighten each nut to the relevant torque setting and check after a 24 hour period to check the setting. During service periodic checking of the torque setting of the nuts are required.
We generally stock two types of rope thimbles:
- BS464/1 1958 Heart Shaped Thimble
- Din 6899/B 1988 Commercial Wire Rope thimble.
Both types can be used to form an end termination loop in wire rope, natural fibre rope or synthetic rope. The purpose of the thimble is to protect the structure of the rope when shackles, hooks, etc are fitted.
