Product Information

The main type of shackles used for lifting are the Bow and Dee types. They are sized by the diameter of the material of the shackle body not the diameter of the pin, shackles are normally forged from various grades of steel, the high quality alloy steels used in US Fed Specification shackles give a higher safe working load (SWL) than those made in higher tensile steels such as BS3032 type. (Size for Size)

It follows that BS3032 type shackles have a higher safe working load than commercial type shackles made in mild steel.

The main types of shackle pin are the screwed pin with eye and collar (type A) and the safety pin with bolt with hexagon head, hexagon nut and split pin (type E).

A countersunk pin type shackle is also available and maybe used where the heads of standard types of shackles might cause obstruction.

Bow shackles are normally used where more then one attachment is made to the body whereas dee shackles are normally used to join two pieces of lifting equipment together.
